What is God’s call for your life?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Barry Stone @ 1:35 pm

It was 1998, when I began to take my walk with the Lord seriously! I had determined to everyday do my devotions, attend every church service and become more invovled in church. That year was my year of spiritual awakening. The year started fine for a few days until the store that my dad worked at burned to the groud and we lost a close family friend. My dad was safe and walked out just fine. That was a time when I saw the Lord work and provide in a great way. He was faithful to His word and to my family. I do thank God for using that time to grow me in my walk with Him.

Every day, I would spend time in God’s word and in prayer. I grow in the Lord so much that I began to see the Lord working and calling me into the ministry. I began to ask the Lord to reveal His will for my life. During that year, the Lord called me into the Gospel Ministry. I knew without a shadow of a doubt that God wanted me to be a preacher. I just didn’t know if it was youth evangelist, evangelist or pastor at that time.

As the months passsed and my spiritual growth occurred, I surrounded myself with men of God. I watched them, listened to them and tried to imitate them in my life. Then I explored the varies callings : youth evangelist, eveangelist and pastor.

I traveled with a youth evangelist for two summers and greatly enjoyed it. I was involved in evangelistic outreaches and greatly enjoyed it. But my heart was to see people come to Jesus and grow in their walk with the Lord. I prayed and prayed and prayed some more. Then the Lord made it clear, that the pastorate was my calling. I knew that being a preacher was my calling for a very long time.

I have enjoyed following God’s call and I look foward to the years ahead as I contunie to follow His call.

If you are reading this and seeking what is God’s call upon your life then I challenge you do a couple of things:

1.) Pray and ask the Lord to reveal His will for you!

2.) Read the Bible and obey it!

3.) Get involved and develop the gifts that God has given you!

4.) Don’t let sin get in the way!

God bless. May you know the joy of His calling and following His will.

Whats on TV at 2 in the morning?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Barry Stone @ 12:55 pm

About 2 this morning, I woke up with a severe stomach ache which finally was healed several hours later. But when you are up and can’t really do anything but watch TV, you quickly realize that there isn’t anything on. I had plenty to watch, because I am addicted and love to watch infomercials. So I watched them with great delight as I began to feel better and drift off to sleep. I watched infomercials regarding watchloss, exercise equipment and food cooking itmes. I enjoy watching a zealous saleman engage with a host that plays the part of being shocked by the items unique features and how this item is a must for you! Then the sales pitch comes and the price is announced. At this time, I always try to get the price: will it be 19.99, 29.99, 39.99 or 59.99? Will they cut the price in half if I call in the next 5 minutes? How many EASY payments will it be – 3, 5?

I maybe the only one that enjoys them and that is fine. Have I ever bought something from them? I have to admit – YES! It was 3 easy payments of 19.99 and yes, I had to call within 5 minutes. But I am not going to tell you  what I bought! :-)

I am feeling better and I thank the Lord for that. But another thing, I enjoyed watching was preachers. As I watched some, I realized why they were on at 2, 3 and 4 in the morning. I feel sorry for the people in their churches, but also for the people that are listening to them. The broadcasts were filled with little scripture, weak preaching and no intense call for the lost to be saved. There was more passion for people’s personal fulfillment and money then for people to walk closer to God and understand His Word better.

Now you know what I do when I can’t sleep. What do you do? Have you bought something from an infomercial? :-)

What is the greatest change in the world?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Barry Stone @ 1:05 pm

Salvation is the greatest change in the world. Salvation never changes, but the people that experience it are changed forever. Salvation is when you repent of your sins and by faith accept Jesus as your Savior!

My change happened at the age of 6, when I realized that I was sinner and need Jesus to save me. I was young, but I know that I had sinned and that sin separated me from God. I felt the conviction of the Lord upon my heart and asked my dad if he would lead me to Jesus.

He pulled out his Bible and read me some verses:

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Rom. 3:23) I knew that I was a sinner!

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Rom. 5:8) I knew that Jesus loved me to died for me!

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Rom. 10:13) I knew that if I called upon Jesus to save me, then He would accept me and save me!

We are all sinners and need a Savior! Jesus is that Savior and He is the only Savior! Will you today be saved? Tomorrow is not a sure thing, but salvation is! Will you this moment be saved?

Here is a prayer that you can pray for salvation:

Dear Jesus, I am a sinner and need to be saved! I believe that Jesus died for me so that I can be saved. Forgive me of my sins and come into my heart and save me. Thank you, Jesus! Give me the strength to live my life for you! In your name, Amen!

If you prayed that from your heart and you meant it. Then welcome to God’s family! To grow in this new family, find a Bible-believing church and get invovled. Read the Bible! Pray!

I would love to hear if you prayed this pray and would love to help you in your walk with the Lord!

God bless!

Yesterday afternoon, The Southern Baptist Convention elected a new president. Dr. Johnny Hunt, pastor of First Baptist Church of Woodstock, GA, won the election with 52.94% of the vote. Dr. Hunt is a godly and gifted man of God who will lead the SBC with vision, courage and unity. I am personally excited to see his presidency play out over the months to follow.

Is there an anchor in the midst of change?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Barry Stone @ 4:54 pm

I am not a person that has experienced a lot of change in my life. I’ve moved only once and that was able 5 miles down the road. I left home for college, but that was only an hour down the road. Friends have come and gone. Activities that I was invovled in have come and gone as well. But I have experienced a lot more change over the last several weeks than what I am used to. Rachel is back home, trips have been made, friends married and just different little things have occurred. So I have been dealing or better yet trying to deal with all the change that has been happening.

Saturday, I began to pray for wisdom and peace in the midst of all this change. I sought God to see if there is an anchor in the midst of change and He answered.

“For I am the LORD, I change not; …” (Mal. 3:6) In the midst of change, God is our anchor. He never changes. People, places, events, plans and so many other things change, but God never does. His plans, peace, power, perception, Person never change. He is our anchor not just in the midst of change, but all the time.

God is our forever anchor!
